The Southwest Monsoon is likely to enter Odisha in the next three to four days, informed the Bhubaneswar regional centre of the IMD on Wednesday. The Monsoon will first arrive in south Odisha before spreading to other areas.

The IMD also said that conditions are now favourable for the onset of the Monsoon as usually, the monsoon enters Odisha in the second week of June.

Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD Bhubaneswar said, “The Southwest Monsoon usually arrives in Odisha towards the second week of June – 12th or 13th. We expect the Monsoon to touch south Odisha in the next three to four days. Till now, conditions are favourable.”

This year, the Southwest Monsoon touched the Andamans and Kerala well in advance. It normally sets in over Kerala on June 1 and advances to North-East parts of India in the next couple of days.

However, it has arrived early this year due to favourable conditions, the IMD said.

The Southwest Monsoon set in early over Kerala last Thursday and it is advancing into parts of North-East India.

As per the IMD, conditions are favourable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka, some parts of south Maharashtra, Goa, remaining parts of Rayalaseema, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, some parts of south Chhattisgarh and South Odisha, some more parts of West-central and Northwest Bay of Bengal.
