The ongoing Khandagiri Mela in Bhubaneswar has been attracting visitors for several reasons. If you want to buy sundry items for home, the festival is the best place. If you are an Opera aficionado, there can’t be a better festival than this.

But it is also attracting many who believe in the magical healing powers of Babas that throng the festival in large numbers.

Babas are seen treating patients at the festival. A baba, who introduces himself as Raju Baba, claims that his water treated with mantra has the power to cure not only Diabetes but also Cancer. He also claims that his oil works like magic in healing arthritis and paralysis. Though the treatment is free, Raju Baba accepts all forms of voluntary donations.

“With the blessings of Lord Shiva, I am treating patients suffering from diseases like heart ailments, piles, body aches, and diabetes. I also cure cancer. If it is an old one, it will take some time,” claimed Raju Baba.

Like Raju Baba, there are some other Babas. People in large numbers are also visiting them with the hope of getting rid of their diseases.

“I had a gastric problem. I bought a water bottle for Rs 10. After drinking a portion of it, I am feeling really well,” said Dilip Pattanayak, a visitor.

Even Babas need healing!

During the festival, one can even witness babas thronging an Ayurvedic centre to get themselves treated. This year, the Ayurvedic centre, operated every year by Jagannath Chetana Sangathan, has so far treated around 700 babas visiting the festival.

“We are treating the saints. They are mostly suffering from gastric, cold and cough, joint pains,” said Prof Satyanarayan Pattanayak, an Ayurvedic doctor.
