An elderly man died while his grandson sustained injuries after they were attacked by a swarm of bees in Nilagiri of Balasore district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Ramachadra Shaw.

As per reports, Ramachandra was cleaning the backyard of his house while his grandson (10) was playing beside him. The incident occurred soon after Ramachandra lit a fire with dry leaves and other garbage.

It is suspected that the smoke from the fire angered the bees which resulted in the attack. Both Ramachandra and his grandson were stung by the bees.

“My father-in-law came rushing inside the house and informed that he was attacked by a swarm of bees. I made him sit under fan and called for help,” said deceased Ramachandra’s daughter-in-law.

As per reports, Ramchandra and his grandson were then rushed to the hospital following the bee attack. However, Ramchandra could not survive the bee sting and was declared dead by the doctors at Nilagiri hospital. His grandson is under treatment at the hospital.

In a similar incident, 18 persons were injured after a swarm of bees stung them at Karanja village under Rayagada's Kalyansinghpur block. Sources said, the bees from the nearby beehive attacked them after they lit a fire to celebrate Ghataparba.
