Are you receiving calls from foreign origin numbers starting with '+92' on WhatsApp? This is reportedly a Pakistani WhatsApp number. Beware! You may be the soft target of the scammers from Pakistan who are on the prowl to dupe you.

In view of cyber safety, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police took to its X handle and cautioned mobile users against receiving calls from this number.

There have been allegations that cyber fraudsters are making use of this WhatsApp number and adopting new tricks to trap users. As part of the modus operandi, the scammers are posing themselves as police officials and bringing false and serious allegations against your near and dear ones. Then they start blackmailing and exploitation of their victims financially.

Keeping this in view, the Commissionerate Police has appealed to people to be alert against such calls and messages from this number.

Notably, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently advised users not to share any information if they receive a call wherein the caller identifies himself as a government official and threatens to disconnect their mobile number for being involved in illegal activities.

The DoT also insisted on immediate reporting of such incidents on the Sanchar Saathi portal and advised people to contact the cyber-crime helpline if targeted.
