A suspected fake doctor providing treatment to patients in Rourkela Government Hospital was detained by police on Thursday.

The alleged fake doctor, whose educational qualification is Plus 2, has been identified as Padmanabhan Mukhi.

As per reports, Mukhi was earlier (2019) arrested by police for treating the patients in Nua Gaon block by showing fake certificates. Following allegations by local residents, he was arrested and forwarded to Court.

However, after coming out from jail, Mukhi was working as a doctor in Rourkela Government Hospital by producing the certificate of a doctor from Jharkhand named Ramesh Chandra Jha.

The matter came to the fore when Mukhi applied for a loan from a private company. Subsequently, Raghunathpali police detained him. Mukhi is being interrogated as part of the investigation.

According to the hospital Superintendent Dr Ganesh Prasad Das, Mukhi was working in the hospital for the last seven months through an outsourcing company- Rahi Care Private Limited.

“We have issued show cause notice to the outsourcing company on why didn’t they verify certificates properly before giving the appointment. We have also informed our higher authorities about the development. I don’t know how he managed to tamper the certificate of a doctor,” said Das.

“He (Mukhi) has technical knowledge. We were giving him Rs 6 lakh per annum for the service. We just came to know yesterday that he has forged documents to grab the job. We also came to know from the police station that action was taken against him earlier for the same reason. He was working as an observer of the patients in the hospital. He has been terminated. We will lodge an FIR against him,” said Mayur Agrawal, Area Manager of Rahi Care Private Limited.
