President Murmu and PM Modi extend Eid al-Adha greetings

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Zuha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar. Both leaders urged citizens to uphold the values of sacrifice, faith, and harmony, and to reaffirm their commitment to serving the nation with dedication.

President Murmu, in a message shared on social media platform X, said, “On the auspicious occasion of Eid-uz-Zuha, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my countrymen, especially my Muslim brothers and sisters. This festival explains the importance of sacrifice, faith and many noble ideals. On this occasion, let us all take a pledge to work with a spirit of dedication for society and the country.”

Prime Minister Modi also posted his wishes on X, writing, “Best wishes on Eid ul-Adha. May this occasion inspire harmony and strengthen the fabric of peace in our society. Wishing everyone good health and prosperity.”

Devotees Celebrate With Prayers and Devotion

Across India, Eid al-Adha is being observed with religious fervour and devotion. The day began with special morning prayers at mosques and Eidgahs, with large congregations in cities and towns across the country. Devotees, dressed in festive attire, offered prayers and participated in rituals marking the sacred occasion.

Significance of the Festival of Sacrifice

Eid al-Adha commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Abraham, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. In honour of this act of devotion, Muslims worldwide perform ‘qurbani’, or the ritual sacrifice of animals such as goats and sheep. The meat is then distributed among family, friends, and the underprivileged, symbolising charity and compassion.
