Bharat Ratna for LK Advani: Here are reactions of political leaders

Wishes continue to pour in for BJP stalwart LK Advani after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement for Bharat Ratna for the former.

Lal Krishna Advani is one of the co-founders of BJP. He is also the member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). LK Advani also served as the Deputy Prime Minister and is the longest serving Minister of Home Affairs.

In his post, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote, “LK Advani is a symbol of purity, dedication and determination in politics. The significant contribution that Advani ji has made to the country's development and nation building in various roles during his long public life is unforgettable and inspiring.”

Singh further wrote, “Advani Ji has also played an important role in keeping the unity and integrity of India intact. As a national leader, he has strengthened the country and democracy through his scholarship, parliamentary and administrative abilities.”

Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari tweeted, “The announcement of Bharat Ratna to the country's senior most leader and our guide respected Lal Krishna Advani ji is very pleasant and joyful. Advani ji has played an important role in the reconstruction of the country after independence. Advani ji is a living example of purity in politics.”

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya tweeted, “A young refugee from Sindh rising to be our Deputy Prime Minister reflects how his journey, filled with tribulations, was always dedicated to nation building.”

Surya further wrote, “His rich contributions to our national polity, unflinching stewardship of civilisational causes, while being an exemplar of Bharatiya Sabhyata serves as endless inspiration to millions around the world.”

Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal also expressed happiness over PM Modi’s decision for announcing Bharat Ratna for LK Advani. 

“Advani ji’s contribution for uniting people for Ram Mandir movement is immense. Everybody is now praising him for his efforts. He set an example by not contesting polls after allegations were levelled and subsequently contested after being cleared,” said Samal.

According to Samal, Advani’s vision for country was immense and he always worked with a positive attitude. 

“Whatever is told about him would be less as his personality is very big. Advani Ji always worked as a team and has a strong will power. I had got opportunity to work with Advani Ji for a long time. He was clear in his statements and has courage to say what is right and what is wrong. We have learnt a lot from him,” Samal added.

BJP MP Pratap Sarangi said, “We are happy over such announcement; he was very inspirational leader. He has done a lot of remarkable works and played champion role in Ram Mandir movement. His role as an administrator is also immense.”

Sarangi said that the entire country is filled with pride over Bharat Ratna being conferred upon him.

“I extend hearty congratulations to Shri LK Advani ji on government’s decision to confer him Bharat Ratna. Advani ji has been inspiration to millions and guided ordinary party workers like me. As a young MP, I drew encouragements from him in performing my duty in the Lok Sabha,” tweeted Kiren Rijiju.

BJD leader Prasanna Acharya said, “LK Advani was among others key leaders who played a crucial role during the Emergency to save democracy. He was a visionary leader and always worked for the development of the country.”

According to Acharya, when BJD came into existence and coalition government was formed, he ‘came in contact with Advani Ji and Atal Ji’. 

“When it comes to taking decision, Advani Ji always used to firm no matter if it hurts anyone provided the decision is right. He used to discuss more openly which was very inspirational,” said Acharya.
