Woman lawyer consumes poison inside Family Court in Odisha

Unable to bear the inordinate delay in her divorce case hearing, a woman lawyer reportedly consumed poison in front of a judge during trial at a family court in Balasore on Wednesday.

The lawyer, identified as Rajashree Barik, has been fighting a legal battle against her husband for separation for the last 13 years.

As the legal proceeding allegedly did not make any headway ever since she filed a divorce case in the family court in 2009, the woman lawyer consumed poison during the hearing today.

She was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by her colleagues. Her condition is stated to be stable.

Police have recovered a suicide note from the spot in which Barik has mentioned that the inordinate delay in the legal proceeding forced her to take the extreme step.
