In a tragic incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train near Kargil slum in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

According to sources, the woman took the extreme step when she was on her way to her parent’s house along with her husband.

The couple was travelling in a car. As per reports, the woman got down from the vehicle near the slum and ran towards the railway tracks to jump before an approaching train. The woman died on the spot after the train ran over her, reports suggested.

The police later recovered the body and started an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact reason behind the extreme step by the woman.

“My daughter had mental illness. She consumed phenyl in the morning before coming to our house. As per my son-in-law, she came out of the car and jumped in front of a moving train to end her life. She once jumped off a moving scooter to commit suicide when she was living in Delhi,” said mother of the deceased.

Father of the deceased woman said, “The incident took place when my daughter was coming to our house with her husband. She came out of the car and ended life by jumping before a moving train.”

On Wednesday passersby and police had rescued a woman who was trying to end her life by jumping off the Kuakhia bridge, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
