After a brief lull, unrest returned to Utkal University with unidentified miscreants ransacking and setting fire to three vehicles that were parked outside Godabarish boys’ hostel on Saturday night.

The incident is suspected to be the fallout of some dispute between two groups of students yesterday.

Later, Saheed Nagar police held discussions with both groups of students. The PG Council Chairman Durga Shankar Pattnaik said, “Police will be investigating the matter. Two vehicles have been set on fire but we are not aware of the reason.”

Pattnaik said that such an incident occurred due to lapses in security as the concerned guard was inside room. “It is now nearly two months that CCTV is not working. The students are demanding assistance for repair of the damaged vehicles,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that recently Utkal University had carried out a drive to keep a check on the entry of outsiders into the campus.
