In a bid to provide better health care facilities, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday flagged off a 'Mobile Hospital Rath' at Athagarh in Cuttack district.

During his visit to Athagarh, the Union Minister launched the service from the premises of Gopabandhu Institute of Medical Science and Research School (GIMSAR) at Madhapur.

The mobile unit will have a doctor and a nurse along with modern medical facilities. It will reportedly play a key role in providing better health care facilities to critically ill patients.

Set up at an expense of Rs 37 lakh, the Mobile Hospital Rath is expected to benefit the local residents, sources said.

“The hospital on the wheel will cater its services to the residents of Baramba, Narsinghpur and Athagarh. It will help doctors reach people and provide treatment,” said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

“The mobile hospital will help treatment facilities reach the far-flung areas,” said GIMSAR chairman Niranjan Rath.

Earlier in the day, the Union Minister also visited Maa Cuttack Chandi temple in the Silver City and paid obeisance to the Goddess. Later, he assured to transform Cuttack railway station into a world class unit.

Speaking to the media, Vaishnaw said all efforts will be made to transform the Cuttack railway station into a world class unit.

"We will first try to connect the second entry of the railway station with the National Highway. Secondly, the road connecting Malgodown will be developed,” he added.
