Waterlogging is a perennial issue that students and teachers of Srichandanpur Government Upper Primary School under Bangurigaon Gram Panchayat in Puri district face in every monsoon.

As per reports, the school is a victim of negligence by the district administration. Monsoon is a headache for the students and the teachers as they face a torrid time every year due to waterlogging in front of the campus which is located right across a busy road.

Since last few days, the area has been experiencing rains at regular intervals. Every time it rains, the road approaching the school becomes waterlogged.

The students are forced to brave the waterlogged road to enter schools. They often get drenched by falling on the road and are forced to go back home.

“We are facing a tough time to come to school due to the waterlogged road. Many little children are often getting drenched and catching cold and fever in the process. Some of us are also getting injured by falling on the slippery road while coming to school. As a result most of the students are not able to attend classes in the ainy season,” said Pragnya, a student of the school.

“Not only students, but also teachers are facing accident in front of the school due to the waterlogged road,” said Rashmi Prabha Kar, a teacher.

Though, the local residents and teachers have approached the district administration several times to set things right, their plea has fallen on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, the Block Education Officer (BEO) Mandara Mohanty said that they are aware about the problem and steps will be taken to solve it soon.

“We are aware about the crisis that the students are facing in the school. We will inform the higher authorities to take necessary action soon,” said Mohanty.
