A retired teacher from Khaira area in Balasore district has donated Rs 20 lakh to Lord Jagannath temple in Puri to provide Mahaprasad free of cost to the devotees visiting the 12th century shrine. 

The teacher, identified as Rabindra Das, visited the Srimandir office and handed over two cheques of Rs 10 lakh each for the purpose.

According to sources, the amount will be fix deposited in a bank and the annual interest from the deposit will be used for providing Mahaprasad to the devotees.

"Rabindra Das, a retired teacher, from Balasore has donated Rs 20 lakh to Srimandir. He wants his amount to be fixed deposited in the bank and annual interest from the fixed deposit to be used to provide free Mahaprasad to the devotees," said Ajay Kumar Jena, Administrator (Development) of Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

Meanwhile, another devotee Sibaram Padhi from Gajapatinagar in Puri has donated three silver plates weighing 4.665 kg to the Srimandir.
