Orissa HC Directs CMC To Stop Releasing Untreated Sewage Water Into River Kathajodi

The Orissa High Court on Monday directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to immediately stop direct release of sewage water into the Kathajodi river.

While hearing a petition filed by the Khan Nagar Khapuria Industrial Puja Committee regarding discharge of sewage waste into Kathajodi river, the court directed the CMC to ensure treatment of sewage water before releasing it in the river.

The HC also asked the CMC to file an affidavit mentioning steps taken in this regard and scheduled the next hearing on the petition on April 4.

Moreover, the court also directed the Pollution Control Board to report instances where sewage water is discharged into river without treatment.
