Sushil Sahu is no more. But before he breathed his last, little did he know that his organs would keep running in five persons long after his death.

The noble act of organ donation has in fact infused a new lease of life in those five persons. Sahu lived in Aladi village under Belaguntha Block of Ganjam district. He used to  work in Surat to feed the empty stomachs in his family members back in the village. Hee worked as a labourer at a private company in the Gujarat town.

Five days ago, while working in the factory, Sahu collapsed all of a sudden. High blood pressure was blamed for his medical condition. He was immediately rushed to the Prabhu General Hospital in Surat. The doctors informed Sahu's family members that he was brain dead. Yet he was kept under observation for 36 hours. However, Sahu did not show any improvement. Then the family members were counseled to go for his organ donation. And the family readily agreed.

Subsequently, a team of doctors harvested Sahu’s vital organs. Multiple Green Corridors were created to transport Sahu's organs to different cities.

His heart was transported to Chennai and transplanted in a patient undergoing treatment at the MGM Hospital in the southern metropolis. Likewise, his liver and kidneys were transplanted in two patients at a hospital in Ahmadabad. And, two corneas were also transplanted in two other patients. In the process, Sahu saved five lives even after his death.

“We have donated kidneys, eyes, heart and liver. As he was declared brain dead, it was our wish to donate his organs,” said the deceased’s brother.

Sahu's  mortal remains reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Saturday. Upon receiving the body the family members burst into tears.
“My brother was kept under observation for over 36 hours. When he did not show any sign of recovery we decided to donate the vital organs,” said Anil Sahu, another brother of the deceased in teary eyes.

Prior to Sahu, a young man, named Suraj Behera, from Ganjam district had hugged limelight as his vital organs too were donated.
