With spurt in cyber crimes and online fraud, people are trying their best to protect their identity as well as confidential information. However, sometimes a lot of questions crop up in the minds of people on what to do and what would be the consequences if they don’t follow the guidelines for safe online transactions.

One such question these days is creating confusion in the minds of people that whether someone can hack a bank account if he/she gets to know your Aadhaar number?  No doubt Aadhaar card these days is one of the crucial documents which is essential to comply with several guidelines and rules as it also acts as a proof of identity and other purposes as well.

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Tuesday shared a valuable piece of information for people on its official Twitter handle addressing the basic question.

Question: "If someone knows my Aadhaar number, then he can also hack my bank account."

Busting the myth, UIDAI tweeted, “Aadhaar is a symbol of trust. Bank account cannot be hacked just by knowing the Aadhaar number.”

The UIDIA further wrote, "if you don’t wish to disclose your Aadhaar number, then you can use VID or Masked Aadhaar, it is valid and widely accepted."

UIDIA on its official website has also clarified that, just as by merely knowing your ATM card number, no one can withdraw money from the ATM machine; by knowing your Aadhaar number alone, no one can hack into your bank account and withdraw money.

Your bank account is safe if you don’t part with your PIN/OTP given by banks.
