As many as 16 students of Dengesakhal school at Ladiguda village in Gajapati district sustained injuries after a teacher from another school allegedly thrashed them black and blue on Thursday.

According to sources, the teacher, identified as Jagdish Behara of Ladiguda upper primary school, visited Dengesakhal school in an inebriated condition at around 3 pm today and started asking questions to the students.

When the students failed to answer, Behera allegedly thrashed them mercilessly leaving many of them injured. Hearing the scream of the students, the parents rushed into the classroom and detained Behera, sources added.

The injured students have been admitted to the hospital, while Behera has been detained by Adaba police after a complaint was lodged against him.

“The teacher came in an inebriated condition and started thrashing the us. Many of friends sustained injuries, ” alleged a student.

“Behera came to the school to meet two students. But, he started beating the students when they failed to answer his questions,” said Mohan Barua, headmaster of Dengesakhal school.
