Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police on Monday arrested a man accused of killing two persons here on Sunday night. Later on Monday, the accused was forwarded to court.

The accused identified as Chapa of Birsa Nagar basti in Salia Sahi had hacked two persons – Ram Sahoo and Janguray Soren – to death on Sunday night.

Though he had fled the spot after commiting the crime, he surrendered before police today.

“After initial investigation it is clear that the reason behind the murder is dispute over land. The accused has identified by the help of eye witnesses,” DCP Nitinjeet Singh said.

The murder is said to be fall out of past rivalry between the accused Chapa and the deceased Janguray.

According to reports, Chapa, on Sunday night, attacked Janguray while he was in his house. But Ram, Janguray’s neighbour, who tried to help Janguray out was caught in the fight which cost his life.

“Chapa attacked Ram while he was trying to prevent him attacking Janguray. The duo died in the attack,” wife of Janguray said.

“He attacked my husband as a result of past rivalry,” wife of Ram said.
