Man attempts suicide after killing wife, sons

Pune: A superstitious man poisoned his two minor sons and subsequently tried to end his life at his residence here alongwith wife, leaving his family dead, police said today.

The incident took place at their Dhayari flat on Sinhgad road when Arun Palkar (42), an electrical contractor, gave an overdose of sedatives to his sons- Omkar (11) and Omprakash (6) – before consuming the substance himself alongwith wife Anita (41), they said.

While Palkar has been hospitalised in a critical condition, his wife and children were found dead, police said. A suicide note and six letters addressed to Palkar`s two brothers (Ramesh and Umesh, the owner of the flat), the police, the Sasson hospital and residents of the society, clearly pointed to frustration and depression, they said.

Palkar had also left two blank cheques for performing the last rites of the family. The incident came to light when Palkar`s older brother, Ramesh called up at his residence but failed to get any response. Police said in the suicide note, Palkar stated that he had suffered a lot in life due to unfavourable planetary movements.

The police have registered an offence against Palkar for murder under section 302 and for attempting suicide under section 309 of the Indian Penal Code.
