As many as 3,607 vacancies existed at different entry level posts in the railway in Odisha, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Replying to a query by Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahoo on the vacancies in Odisha, Vaishnaw said there are 5264 vacancies in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) of which around 3607 vacancies exist in Odisha.

“Vacancies are maintained Zone and Division-wise and not State-wise. However, 5264 vacancies exist in East Coast Railway which covers a large part of State of Odisha. Out of these, around 3607 vacancies exist in the State of Odisha,” Vaishnaw said in a written statement.

The Union Minister informed that a total of 149688 entry level posts are lying vacant in 17 railway zones in the country.

Asked about the time by which these vacancies are expected to be filled in Odisha, Vaishnaw said, “Occurrence and filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and vacancies are filled up as per operational requirements through placement of indents by Railways with recruitment agencies.”

“Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in Railways are filled up through selection from open market through Railway Recruitment Boards and Railway Recruitment Cells of Zonal railways. Vacancies are notified and filled up periodically after following due process by these agencies,” the Minister added.
