Bhubaneswar: An Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan was killed in a fierce encounter between security personnel and Maoists on Tuesday at Kerubadi forest near G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal.

The jawan has been identified as R. B. H. Thakuri.
Another police personnel was also injured in the gunbattle that began on Monday night.

Earlier on Monday, security personnel Rajiv Kanhar, the bodyguard of ASP Brijesh Kumar, sustained injuries during encounter with Maoists at Kalingbadi forest in Kandhamal.

Kanhar was admitted to the district headquarters hospital with bullet injuries on his leg.

The encounter with the rebels took place when a team of about 15 jawans of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) was undertaking combing operation at Kalingbadi forest under Daringbadi police station area.
