Pakistan train hijack

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the group which hijacked Jafar Express train on Tuesday, has released a video showing how they bombed a section of the railway track and took the passengers hostage.

Reportedly, more than 450 passengers were on board when the Baloch separatist rebels captured the train traveling through Mach, Balochistan.

What The Video Shows

The 1 minute 23 seconds of the footage shows passengers huddled on the ground silhouetted against the mountain, with rebels, holding guns, keeping a watch over them.

If reports are to be believed, Pakistani forces have so far managed to free 190 hostages from the besieged train.

How the Train Hijacking Happened

The incident took place on March 12, 2024, when a passenger train traveling through Balochistan was hijacked by armed militants.

Reports indicate that Baloch separatist rebels stopped the train near Mach, Bolan district, and took control of multiple compartments.

Several passengers were held hostage as the attackers made unconfirmed demands to authorities.

Possible Reason Why The Train Was Targeted

Balochistan has long been a hotspot for insurgent activities, with separatist groups demanding independence from Pakistan.

Rebel groups have targeted military and infrastructure projects in the past, and this attack appears to be a major escalation of their activities.

The BLA claims that the region's natural resources are being exploited by outsiders and hence, targeting Pakistanis from other regions.

Latest Update on Pakistan Train Hijack

As per reports, over 450 passengers onboard were being held hostage and several Pakistani military personnel were killed. Security forces successfully freed around 80 hostages.

Meanwhile, the Baloch Liberation Army has threatened to execute ten Pakistani hostages in retaliation for drone strikes and artillery shelling by Pakistani forces.
