Conservative activist and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, was fatally shot during an event at a Utah college, sparking a large-scale investigation.

The FBI had earlier circulated images of a “person of interest” connected to the killing, showing a young man in sunglasses and a baseball cap walking through a building.

On Friday, President Donald Trump confirmed that authorities had detained the suspect after an intensive search.

“Somebody very close to him turned him in,” Trump revealed during a live interview with Fox News.

Law enforcement officials have since identified the individual in custody as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. An official familiar with the investigation confirmed the details to the Associated Press but requested anonymity as they were not authorized to comment publicly.

President Trump further stated that he believed ‘with a high degree of certainty’ that the correct suspect had been apprehended.

The arrest marks a critical development in the case, which has drawn national attention due to Kirk’s political prominence and close ties with Trump. Investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
