Raipur: A Head Constable was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for releasing a man on bail here.

Indra Kumar Aadil (48), posted at Devendra Nagar police station, was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for weakening the case of complainant and releasing him on bail," an ACB official said.

The complainant, Pandhari Lal Sonkar, runs a sugar cane juice shop in Devendra Nagar area. A few days ago, his helper Manish seriously injured his fingers while working on a sugarcane juice machine. Manish later lodged a compliant with Devendra Nagar police following which Sonkar was arrested.

Although, Sonkar was granted bail, the Head Constable was continuously pressuring him to give a bribe of Rs 6,000 for his release and settle the case, the official said.

Sonkar agreed to give Rs 5,000 and at the same time registered a complaint to ACB against Aadil. After verifying the complaint, a trap was laid at Sonkar's juice shop and Aadil was arrested while accepting the money, he said.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed against the policeman.
