In the mid-2000s, Farhan Akhtar created a buzz in the film industry with his debut as a director with Dil Chahta Hai. As Farhan Akhtar celebrates his 50th birthday today, let’s take a look at the movies that helped him establish himself as a successful director in Bollywood. 

Dil Chahta Hai: Farhan Akhtar made his directional debut with the coming-of-age drama movie Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna portray the role of three inseparable buddies whose bond endures throughout the film. Farhan's novel storytelling, contemporary storyline, and accurate depiction made the audiences in awe. The movie gained cult status and is praised for its accurate portrayal of love and friendship.

Lakshya: His next movie as a director was a war drama 'Lakshya' which was released in 2004. The movie revolves around an aimless boy played by Hrithik Roshan who joins the Indian Army and transforms himself into a soldier. The movie also stars Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Om Puri. 

Don 2006: This movie was directed by Farhan Akhtar and starred Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. The film's sleek and fashionable presentation along with Farhan's deft direction made the movie a commercial success. The compelling storyline and reimagining of the beloved character elevated "Don" to a noteworthy position in Farhan Akhtar's filmography. The movie collected Rs 50 crore.

Don 2: In 2011, Don 2's humongous success made a resounding comeback for Farhan Akhtar as an established director. The movie earned over 106 crore as the movie was well appreciated by the fans. 

He has also made a significant mark as an actor with films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara, Karthik Calling Karthik and Rock On.

His notable productions (Excel Entertainment) included films like Gully Boy, Furkey series and movie Gold starring Akshay Kumar.

On the work front, recently he announced the third installment of his Don franchise where Ranveer Singh is all set to play the lead role. The film is slated to release in 2025.
