Deepika Padukone and Samantha Akkineni are the topmost actresses from Bollywood and Tollywood respectively. Naturally, they are also one of the highest-paid actresses today. But even then, they rarely get paid at par with the lead heroes.
Time and again actresses like Vidya Balan and Kangana Ranaut have expressed disappointment that despite having equal importance and footage in a movie, they are paid less than the main male character.
There was a time when Sridevi or Madhuri Dixit got paid much more than their heroes. But they were an exception. However, leading ladies like Deepika Padukone or Samantha Akkineni are slowly pioneering the change for the good.
While even now these actresses are not getting the remuneration offered to the male superstars, by demanding a better amount they are ensuring that the quality and star value that they add to the movies or projects is given due importance.
According to reports, Deepika Padukone has demanded a hefty amount for her role in Nag Ashwin’s next with Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. Reportedly, she is charging anywhere around Rs 10 crore. The producers - Vyjayanthi Movies are quite aware of the impact the presence of the Padmavaat actress will make on the success of their movie. That is why they have readily agreed to pay this fatty paycheck to the Bollywood superstar.
Another actress who is currently in big demand post-release of The Family Man 2 is Tollywood queen Samantha Akkineni. Her performance as Raji has received rave reviews and now she has been approached by big banners from the B-town. Reportedly, she is also being offered a huge paycheck to star in Bollywood flicks.
According to a reports, Netflix has already made a big offer to the Oh! Baby actress. The OTT streaming platform wants Sam to do a trilingual web series that will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil and has offered Rs 8 crore for playing a protagonist. It is very close to the amount popular male stars are paid for doing a web series.
While both Deepika Padukone and Samantha Akkineni may not be getting equal to what the lead male stars are offered, the gap is surely narrowing and hopefully, in the years to come, these Indian film industry queens will be paid equal to their male counterparts.
