  • Tinnu Anand and Amitabh Bachchan have worked together multiple times.
  • Kaalia is one of the best works of the duo.

Amitabh Bachchan and Tinnu Anand have collaborated on multiple occasions. First, he directed Big B in Kaalia and later on even worked with him in Agneepath as an actor. A problem arose when the two were working on the Kaalia movie. The story was written by veteran writer Inder Raj Anand who was also the father of Tinnu Anand. Inder Raj Anand was very particular that none of the words from his dialogues were changed and he never let any actor even big names like Dilip Kumar interfere with the script.

Things became tense on the sets of Kaalia when Amitabh Bachchan refused to say a particular dialogue. Narrating the exact incident, Tinnuji during his recent interview said that it was his first movie as a director. When the Kabhi Kabhie actor came on the set, he was in a bad mood.

As soon as the director narrated the dialogue to Amitabh Bachchan, Pran, and Parveen Babi who were also a part of the scene, the Bollywood superstar said that he would not say this dialogue. On asked why he was refusing to say the dialogue, Amitabh did not give any reason but simply said, “No.” It made Tinnu Anand angry and said to the producer that he was ready to leave the movie and that the makers could hire another director.

Tinnu tried to explain to Amitabh Bachchan that he and his father were up until the wee hours to make sure that the dialogues were clap-worthy and he was confident that this particular dialogue would earn him lots of applause. Big B asked Tinnu how he was so confident even though it was his first film whereas the actor himself was not feeling confident about it despite working in so many movies.

At that time, Amitabh Bachchan said, “You know every director tells me that you will get claps on this but when I go to the theatre, there are no claps.” It was the time Tinnu Anand decided to take a strong stand and challenged the famous actor by saying, “‘Sir, I swear on my mom, my profession, if I don’t get a clap, I will leave this profession, I will never direct again. But you will have to swear too, that if there is clapping on this, you will leave your profession.”

At that moment the Shahenshah of Bollywood stood up from his chair. At first, Tinnu Anand thought that Big B was going to slap him. But instead, the actor said, “Switch on the lights. He is such a stubborn director, that he won’t budge. I will say the dialogue.”

The dialogue that led to this tussle was ‘Tu aatish-e-dozakh se darata hai jinhe… voh aag ko pee jate hain paani karke. Chala dijiye goli’.
