Director Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’ continues to enjoy a good box office business. The film has entered the Rs 100 crore club and is still minting money.

The film based on religious conversion stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in pivotal roles. Despite the box office success, the movie has been mired in controversy and the lead actresses are reportedly getting a lot of hate and abusive messages online.

Apart from Adah, actress Sonia recently opened up about receiving hate and abusive messages for her role as Asifa in the film.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sonia said, “I have been receiving abusive messages because I have said many strong lines in the movie about all the Gods. I know there is a section that is not happy, but if they realize that it’s a true story and the motive is only to create awareness of those terrorist groups, then I hope that they can feel positive about it. I’m trying to focus on the positive side, instead of the trolling and bans. From the tea seller to every vendor, everyone is supporting the film so much.”

“I decided to star in the film because I went numb after hearing the script. The story is for a bigger cause. Even if one girl is saved from getting brainwashed, that serves the purpose,” she added.

The movie is about the journey of three girls who are brainwashed and converted to Islam by ISIS.

On the work front, Sonia has also worked in Tum Bin, Saif Ali Khan’s Bazaar, daily soaps like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Detective Didi and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain.
