The Odisha government has increased the scholarship amount of differently abled students under Banishree Scholarship Scheme in the State. 

Informing the move, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Ashok Chandra Panda Tuesday said as per Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s direction, the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities department has increased the scholarship amount. 

Students of Class I to Class V are getting Rs 200 per month under the scheme at present. The amount has been increased to Rs 400. 
The scholarship amount of students reading in Class VI to Class X has been increased from the existing Rs 250 to Rs 500. 

Similarly, Plus II and Plus III students’ present scholarship of Rs 300 pm has been increased to Rs 600. And the scholarship amount of post graduation students has been hiked from Rs 350 to Rs 700 per month. The scholarship amount of the students who are receiving technical and vocational training has been increased from Rs 350 to Rs 700. 

The students from Class I to university level who are reading outside the State will get Rs 700, instead of the present Rs 350. 
Similarly, the reader allowance for visually impaired students  in primary schools has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 200. That of students of middle school has been hiked from Rs 150 to Rs 300 and for the rest of the students, it has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 400. 

This apart, the transport allowance of students with 75 or more percentage of disability has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 200. 

The hiked scholarship would be implemented from 2022-23 and over 23,600 students will be benefitted.
