A strong and unbeatable approach and determination with consistency is the cornerstone to success. Today, we bring to you one such inspiring story of IAS Rukmani Riar, who was a backbencher and once failed in Class VI.

However, a feisty and determined Rukmani later went on to clear India’s toughest exam, Civil Services Exam conducted by UPSC in her first attempt. She secured AIR-2 in the UPSC CSE 2011 just behind 2011 IAS topper Shena Aggarwal.

Born and brought up in the state of Punjab, IAS Rukmani currently serves as an IAS officer in Rajasthan.

According to reports, Rukmani wasn’t a very bright student since school. Having failed in Class VI, Rukmani was afraid of failing ever since. The disheartening experience taught her not to sulk and complain.

That one life lesson taught her how to be persistent and never give up in life. After her schooling, she went on to pursue her graduation in social sciences from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Later, she joined the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for post-graduation.

After her post-graduation, Rukmani did internship with NGOs and decided to give UPSC a try. She secured an amazing second rank in her very first attempt and proved that consistency and determination is the key to success.

To clear the fundamentals, Rukmani recommends NCERT books from Class VI to Class XII. She also suggests reading newspapers comprehensively for the UPSC interview for the daily current affairs.

She also recommends aspirants to appear mock sessions to develop confidence, a report in BYJUS revealed.
