Balurghat (WB): Asking people to vote for a change, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged people not to vote for Independent candidates.

Describing the Independents as “agents of CPI(M)”, she said they had tied up with the party to prevent the Trinamool-Congress alliance from forming the next government.

“The people will never forgive them for this plan”, she said.

The Trinamool Congress, she said, would do everything necessary for the uplift of minorities, if voted to power.

In the 35-year-long Left Front rule in the state, the state government had pushed West Bengal to the back benches by becoming a failure on all fronts -- education, health, availability of drinking water, communication.

Referrring to South Dinajpur, she said the government apathy had led to scarcity of drinking water in the district, which was despite the Centre allocating large sums of money for the district.

As a Railway minister, she said, she had effected great changes in the railway network in the district.

Ms. Mamata was accompanied by shipping minister Mukul Roy.
