It is that time of the year when the markets are usually crowded during the Durga puja. It provides a good business opportunity for the traders. At the same time, it is also a time when there is a rise in petty crimes as well. In one such incident, a youth was caught red-handed while trying to steal two pairs of jeans, shorts, and two t-shirts from a mall in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The accused, identified as Sushant, had entered the mall wearing a t-shirt and shorts just like any other customer. The staff and other employees had no idea about Sushant’s real intention.

Within no time, the accused managed to wear two pairs of jeans, and two t-shirts over his own clothing. Nobody could detect Sushant’s move as he wore the garments inside the trial room. However, it was the barcode siren that went off when Sushant tried to come out of the mall.

The siren alerted the security guard and other staff present at the mall. Subsequently, they took Sushant to the trial room and frisked him. Everybody was surprised after they found that he had actually stolen two pairs of jeans, shorts and two shirts from the mall.

Earlier in June this year, the Commissionerate Police had busted an inter-state all-women gang of robbers involved in stealing valuables from various shopping malls in Bhubaneswar.

Nine members of the gang were arrested by Nayapalli Police. Senior officials said that all the arrested women robbers hail from neighbouring West Bengal.
