Like a scene from a violent film, a BJD leader allegedly launched a deadly attack on a youth with a sharp-edged weapon by chasing him on the road at Madanpur village under Jatani block in Khordha district on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Gyanaranjan Mansingh alias Putul. Mansingh is currently serving as the Vice-President of Khordha District BJD.

As per reports, Mansingh had a heated exchange with victim Riphan Baliarsingh over a trivial issue of vehicle overtaking.

Subsequently, Mansingh lost his cool and hacked Bailarsingh with a sharp-edged weapon by chasing him on the road.

Baliarsingh sustained severe injuries in the process. He has been admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in critical condition.

Bailarsingh’s uncle Ranjan has lodged a complaint in this connection at Info Valley police station in Bhubaneswar.

“Putul, who is claiming to be a BJD leader, always carries sharp-edged weapons in his vehicle. With the help of some goons, he used to undertake criminal activities in the area. He has launched a deadly attack on Riphan and left him seriously injured. Strong action should be taken against the culprit,” said Ranjan.

No reaction could be obtained from any BJD leader in this connection so far.

Notably, Putul had scared residents in Bhubaneswar by cutting cake with a sword to celebrate his birthday a couple of days earlier. The video of his birthday celebration had gone viral on various social media platforms.
