The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall activities in several states under the influence of a fresh low pressure system.

As per IMD, the low pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea by December 5. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal by December 7 morning.

“Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry & adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by December 8 morning,” said IMD.

Rainfall Forecast And Warnings

Light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands from December 4 to 6. Enhanced rainfall activity is likely to commence over north coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and South coast Andhra Pradesh from December 7 mid-night.

It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over north Tamilnadu & Puducherry and isolated heavy rainfall over south Andhra Pradesh on 8 December 2022.

Wind Warning

Squally winds (speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph) likely over Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 5 and 6; over Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on Decembe 6 and 7.

Squally winds (50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) over Southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri Lanka coast on December 7 and December 8. Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to commence along & off Tamilnadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh coast and Gulf of Mannar from December 8 morning becoming 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from December 8 evening for subsequent 12 hours.
