Family members of the woman and her daughter, who were killed after being hit by a truck near Barada chowk on the National Highway (NH) No. 53 under Jenapur police limits, have demanded stern action against the culprits.

As per police sources, the truck driver intentionally mowed down the scooter carrying the mother-daughter duo following an altercation.

The family members and kin of the deceased said that stern action should be taken against the culprit and he should be hanged to death.

Notably, the police took suo-moto cognizance of the case and arrested the truck driver identified as Amar Swain who hails from Totakana village under Dharmasala police station. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Notably, the woman, identified as Srutika Chakravorty, and her daughter Lipika Chakravorty were returning to their home in Sukinda on a scooter after attending an eleventh-day death ritual of a relative in Kendrapara.

While returning, the truck driver overtook them on the wrong side. After the incident, an altercation broke out between Lipika and the truck driver. When the minor altercation began to turn ugly, locals intervened and calmed both of them down. However, the truck driver intentionally mowed down their scooter resulting in their death on the spot.

“The quarrel broke out near our house, after hearing about that, we went to the spot and got to know that truck driver misbehaved with Srutika,” said a local.

“We tried to calm the situation and sent all of them on their way. Later we heard about the accident,” he added.
