In a tragic incident, the granddaughter-in-law of erstwhile king of Kanika was allegedly hacked to death by her son at their Sribihar Colony residence of Tulasipur in Cuttack on Wednesday.

The 75-year-old deceased has been identified as Paresh Kumari Bhanjadeo.

As per reports, Paresh Kumari lived in the house along with her son, Soumendra Narayan Bhanjadeo. Her daughter Jayanti Samantray is living on another floor. The old woman had a difference of opinion with Soumendra and they often quarrelled with each other. Today, the mother and the son got into heated arguments following which the accused allegedly hacked her with a sharp edged weapon in a feat of rage.

Subsequently, Jayanti informed the local police who rushed to the crime spot immediately with a scientific team and detained Soumendra who allegedly tried to flee upon seeing the police. The body has been sent for autopsy.

 “My brother is mentally unstable. He has been beating up my mother since a long time. I saw my brother attacking my mother this morning over CCTV camera and immediately informed the local police,” said Jayanti.

The police have launched an investigation into the case. The actual reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
