Commissionerate Police Arrests Man Accused Of Raping Minor Aspiring Actor In Bhubaneswar

The Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested one Saroj Biswal on charges of repeatedly raping a minor girl during shooting of an album in Bharatpur area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Following the arrest of Biswal, the police are planning to recreate the crime scene, sources said.

The horrific incident came to the fore after the victim, who works as a side dancer in albums,  and her family members lodged a complaint of rape at the Bharatpur police station on March 4. 

In their complaint, the victim mentioned three persons, including Suraj Biswal, the lead actor and Bishnu, an artist supplier, as the perpetrators of the crime. 

As per her complaint, she was offered the role of the protagonist in an album by Biswal and his team. The first part of the album was shot on March 3, which she said was done with the sole intention to convince her about her role. 

The plot of the album was based on the much-publicised struggling model Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi’s suicide case. Last month, the model had committed suicide at his residence in Nandan Vihar area of the Capital city, holding his girl friend responsible for his death in a suicide note. 

The victim was signed to portray the character of Soumya’s girlfriend in the album. 

The second part of the shooting was held at a house in Bharatpur area the same night (March 3). She was briefed about a hostage sequence that follows her kidnapping, she said.

 However, in reality, the miscreants tied up her hands and legs while Biswal raped her repeatedly.

On the basis of the victim’s compliant, the police had registered a rape case and a manhunt was launched to arrest the absconding trio.
