Cuttack: Armed miscreants on Thursday shot dead a contractor in broad day light here in Kandarpur area. The deceased contractor has been identified as Bijay Routray, a resident of Madhupatna area.

According to reports, two motorcycle-borne miscreants fired gun shots that hit Routray in his head and stomach, thereby killing him on the spot.

Routray was attacked while he was accompanying his friend to the construction site of a road of a canal in Damodarpur area in Kandarpur.

The reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, yet past rivalry is believed to be the motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
