Carcass of endangered wild animals seized
Itanagar: Several carcass of endangered wild animals were seized from a smuggler at Doimukh, about 40 kms from here, police said on Sunday.
In a joint raid by forest and police officials yesterday, Lokar Takia was arrested and corpses of a barking deer, a large Indian civet, seven red jungle fowls and a piegon was seized from him.
Takia, a resident of Pipsorang village in Kurung Kumey district, was apparently smuggling the wildlife for their meat, police said.
A case has been registered under Wildlife Protection Act, while the corpses were consigned to flames.
The wanton killing of wild animals by using air guns and .22 rifles is decreasing their population leading to ecological imbalance, Doimukh range forest officer Chuku Tanya said.
