Chennai: The BJP on Monday said it would press for a provision in the proposed Jan Lokpal bill for confiscation of illegal assets of those found guilty.

"Yes, certainly we will...," BJP`s senior leader Sushma Swaraj said when asked whether her party would demand a clause for confiscation of illegal assets.

However, Swaraj declined to elaborate, saying she would be able to comment only when it (the bill) was made available in the public domain.

Referring to Assembly polls, she said, "corruption and price rise have become the major issues in these elections.

Tamil Nadu has become the centre of corruption because of the 2G spectrum scam," Swaraj told reporters here.

She lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying he was heading the "most" corrupt Government in independent India. The Prime Minister has himself said he was "helpless" on various issues, Swaraj alleged.

"On 2G spectrum Scam, he (Prime Minister) says you ask (former Telecom Minister) A Raja. Even on the debate on cash for votes, he says "I don`t know. My party did not do it," she said.

Referring to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee`s comments that Tamil Nadu`s financial position was "good", she termed it as "untrue".

"In the elections earlier, people thought BJP was contesting only to give a token fight. But, in these elections they have understood BJP is a serious player," she said.

Swaraj appealed to people to go by their "conscience" in casting their vote and not by freebies announced by parties.

"They are distributing freebies from the amount accumulated through corruption," she claimed.

As part of luring voters, parties including DMK and AIADMK have announced various freebies like free mixies and grinders if they were voted to power.
