Rourkela (Odisha): At least 26 cows were rescued by people of Koel Nagar area under Jhirpani police station here today while they were being smuggled, the police said.
Two persons, Pradipta Toppo and Balbir Ekka, were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle the animals.
During interrogation, the two stated that a businessman had paid them money to take the cows from Khatakurbahal to Gudagudujore, the sources said. Bajrang Dal and VHP activists reached the spot and handed over the accused and the cows to the police.
