Lucknow: Opposition Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh today alleged that a scam of more than Rs 8,000 crore had taken place in purchase of foodgrains during the last four years of BSP rule in the state, and demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.

"There has been a scam of around Rs 2,000 crore per year in the purchase of wheat and paddy, and a CBI probe is required in the case," Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Shivpal Singh Yadav said.

Yadav alleged that paddy had not been purchased directly from farmers at the purchase centres, and fake purchases had been shown with the help of middlemen. He demanded that names of farmers from whom paddy was purchased be made public.
