Howrah (WB): A teacher of an English-medium private school here was arrested here on Friday for allegedly beating up a student of class-VIII by iron chains for gossipping in the class, the police said.

The Hindi teacher of St Aloysius Orphanage and Day School, Jaiprakash Singh was arrested after father the student lodged an FIR in Golabari police station about the beating up of his son in the class.

The incident happened in the afternoon yesterday.
