Bhubaneswar: The Forest Department  has finally arrested the main accused in the January 13 tiger killing case.

Ganesh Padhiari, the prime accused in the brutal tiger killing case at the suburb of the capital was arrested late night on Friday from his residence after the forest officials conducted a raid at the Gandarpur village.

A joint team led by DFO, City Forest Division and the Police had cracked down on the Majhisahi area of the village and nabbed Padhiari. 

Padhiari was accused of leading the scores of villagers who chased and killed a young leopard that had accidentally strayed into a forest plantation near the city.

“The forest division has arrested the main culprit and the other accused in this case will be arrested very soon”, said Additional Forrest Conservator Sasmita Lenka.

Meanwhile, Padhiari has been sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was cancelled by the court. 

“We have four more accused in the list. After examining the main culprit, we will proceed further”, said Ashok Mishra, Ranger, Mancheswar Forest Range.
