Khatima (Uttarakhand): A leopardess was on Tuesday found dead in a canal near the Indo-Nepal border here today, official sources said.

The carcass of the leopardess was found floating in the Lohiahead Sharda power house canal by forest guards. Some body parts like the jaw, tail and claws are missing, Divisional Forest Officer of Khatima J P Singh said.

A preliminary examination of the carcass has revealed that the leopardess might have been killed by poachers and threw in the canal, Singh said.

However, a postmortem is being conducted to ascertain the exact cause of its death, he said.
