Cash worth Rs 22 lakh seized from a car in Khordha; drug peddler escapes

Khordha police on Tuesday recovered Rs 22 lakh from a car following a raid near Sialia road. However, some miscreants including a wanted drug peddler managed to escape leaving behind the vehicle.

As per senior police officials, the drug peddler, identified as Sarat Behera, was wanted in a narcotics case registered recently. Around 6 persons were arrested and police had managed to seized cash of Rs 13 lakh, 511 grams of gold jewellery and some quantity of brown sugar from them.

“Today, we had got some inputs that the accused Sarat was on his way to Bhubaneswar along with some brown sugar. Based on the tip-off, a raid was conducted. Though the accused escaped leaving behind the car, we recovered Rs 22 lakh from the vehicle,” said the senior police official.

The recovery of huge cash has certainly indicated towards the involvement of the occupants in illegal narcotics trade. However, further investigation in this connection is underway.
