Jewellery Worth Rs 18L Looted In Bhubaneswar Apartment; Residents In Panic

Bhubaneswar: The smart city is certainly living up to its reputation of being called the ‘loot capital’ of Odisha, as yet another incident of robbery during daytime has raised questions whether Bhubaneswar is really safe for its denizens.

As per reports, gold ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh were looted from the apartment of one Subash Sahoo in Jagannath Nagar area under Laxmi Sagar police limits here Friday afternoon. The matter came to the fore in the evening after a complaint was lodged at the local police station.

A postal department employee, Sahoo had recently shifted to the apartment of the multi-storey building along with his wife.

Reportedly, Sahoo’s brother and other family members live in another apartment in the same building where everyone was having lunch yesterday at around 3 PM. Taking advantage of this, some miscreants entered Sahoo’s flat upstairs by breaking open the lock of the door and then decamped with all the gold ornaments kept in the almirah’s locker.

“The incident took place at around 3 PM. We were having lunch at my brother-in-law’s apartment and my flat was locked from outside. The miscreants took away all the ornaments after breaking open the almirah. When I returned, I saw all the ornaments were missing,” said Sahoo’s wife.

“There were three necklaces, 10 to 12 pairs of earrings, 22 rings, one bracelet and an armlet. There were also some silver ornaments in the locker. There was cash also but they only took the ornaments,” she added.

“Whoever has committed the crime has kept a track of my movement. I am new to the area and many people do not know me. The criminals had kept a track on my timing of coming and going out of the house,” said Sahoo.

Police reached the spot after initiated an investigation after a complaint was filed in this regard. A scientific team also arrived at the spot later.

Meanwhile, the cops are verifying the footages of CCTV installed outside a parlour near the building.
