Dhenkanal: A suspected family dispute took a tragic turn after a man allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe at Pangatira village under Parjang Police limits in Dhenkanal district in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Mita Sahu.

According to reports, Mita, who hailed from Pangatira village, had married Lalit Sahu of the same village two years back. Everything was going well between them until last night when a quarrel led to violent attack. During the incident, Lalit flew into rage and hacked Mita with an axe at around 1 AM, killing her on the spot.

Meanwhile, Mita’s father Krushna Chandra alleged that he had lodged a complaint regarding the dispute at Mahaviroad Police outpost, but instead of taking any action the cops asked him to resolve the issue mutually.

Upon being informed about the murder, personnel of Mahaviroad outpost rushed to the village and launched a probe into the matter. The police said a manhunt is underway to nab the accused who is reportedly absconding after committing the crime.

Meanwhile, some villagers who were enraged over the incident, detained the police.
