Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday rejected the petition of OERC (Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission) seeking a total vacation of its March 31 interim stay on collection of hiked electricity tariff.

The division bench comprising Justice B P Das and Justice B K Mishra refused to entertain the OERC plea on the ground that the merit and maintainability of the original PIL challenging the power tariff hike has already been taken up by the bench for hearing.

Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner had also vehemently opposed the OERC plea alleging that the commission, a quasi judicial body, is not working for the general consumers. The bench posted the matter to be heard next on Thursday.

It may be mentioned here that the HC had slapped a stay on collection of higher electricity tariff as proposed by the OERC for both domestic and commercial consumers. The HC, however, had modified the interim order vacating the stay on the commercial consumers.
