Bhubaneswar: In a major break through, security personnel on Sunday morning shot dead five Maoists including four women here in Jajpur. The ultras were killed during a heavy exchange of fire with the cops in Raighati area under Tamka police limits.

Acting on tip off, Jajpur police had started its combing operation on Saturday night to hunt the ultras down. As a result, the police encountered the red rebels on Sunday morning in Tungeisini of Raighati area.

The rebels first opened fire at the police there by inviting heavy retaliation from the security personnel, police sources revealed. Unable to take on the heavy fire the ultras had to flee from the scene. However, the bodies of the rebels were recovered by the cops later.

“Investigation is still on if the ultras were going to attend the meeting organized by Bisthapan Birodhi Janmancha,” Jajpur SP Dhirendra. S. Kutte has said.

Meanwhile, the cops have seized 12 guns and other arms and ammunitions including a 303 rifle, five pistols and five country made pistols after the encounter.

Again, the combing operation has been expedited in the area and the perimeter has been sealed. Some of the other ultras have reportedly been injured during the encounter.

Besides today’s incident, recent encounters at Paikamal and Keonjhar, where the cops have gained significant results, have boosted the morale of the security personnel who have plying hard the anti-Maoist operations in the state.
